Plant City Florida in Hillsborough County is a city located about 28 minutes from downtown Tampa. It's proximity to downtown Tampa makes it a desirable place to live yet the distance from downtown Tampa also makes housing a bit more affordable than areas located closer to downtown Tampa and other areas of Hillsborough County.
Plant City has a population of about 39,000 people and mostly covers zip codes 33563 (main zip code), 33565, 33566 and 33567 and is approximately midway between Brandon and Lakeland along Interstate 4 (I-4).
Plant City, named after prominent railroad developer, Henry B. Plant, is known as the strawberry capital of the world. The Florida Strawberry Festival in the late winter (usually in February or early March), is a huge yearly festival celebrating the strawberry. People come from all over the country and world to attend. At the Strawberry Festival, you can purchase just about any type of food possible that's made with fresh strawberries.
Plant City is located in northeastern Hillsborough County. I-4 runs through the northern part of the city and has a total area of 28.1 square miles of which 27.2 square miles are land and 0.93 square miles are water.
